Assistant General Manager - the progress

Required Years of Experience: 1 year

Job Details:

The Progress is seeking an Assistant General Manager with a Wine Focus. This position will support the General Manager to oversee nightly service, daily operations, and assist the Beverage Director with all aspects of the wine program.

Job requirements and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong sense of warmth and hospitality

  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and clear communication skills

  • Physical stamina: ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk up to 5 miles per evening, including stairs

  • Desire for longevity

  • Previous management experience and passion for wine is preferred.

    Wine responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the beverage director to maintain a dynamic wine list, educate our team, and provide our guests with the best possible wine service & experience.

  • Attend weekly on-site tastings

  • Develop and maintain ongoing staff education programs

  • Daily: updating the staff on 86s, low counts, potential changes during lineup

  • Weekly: On beverage days of lineup, focus on new BTGs, and new bottle placements i.e. open up wines from the list, taste the staff and sell off the rest BTG during service

  • Maintain monthly wine inventories by following the Inventory Period Schedule

  • Manage weekly by-the-glass inventory and inform the Beverage Director if orders need to be placed for that week or the following.

  • Eventual assistance in curating the wine list to complement the style of food and atmosphere of the restaurant

  • Ensure accurate wine lists, POS inventory, and add buttons in Toast as necessary 

  • Actively track and reduce loss through proper pour levels, minimizing waste/loss.
